Adult Learn to Row

Learn-To-Row is our introductory class in the sport of rowing. This class focuses primarily upon technique rather than athletic ability, and is designed for adults of all ages and abilities with no previous rowing experience.

The class covers the basics of team rowing, equipment, water and land safety, proper rowing technique and terminology, and building strong crews through teamwork.

A typical practice might consist of land coaching via demonstrations on the ergometers (ergs), erg sessions to practice technique and body mechanics, on the water rowing using a training barge or in an 8-person rowing shell.

Rowing is perfect for those looking for an engaging lifelong sport with which to become more physically active. Rowing exercises all of the major muscle groups. Its smooth, rhythmic motions offer non-impact aerobic and muscular conditioning, with improved balance and flexibility.

At the end of the session, graduate rowers are encouraged to continue in other Detroit Boat Club Crew programs and continue their journey into the world of rowing.   Either morning and evening classes are available.

All classes are taught by talented, enthusiastic and highly skilled Detroit Boat Club Crew coaches and volunteers at our historic boathouse on Belle Isle.
